IPHONE DUO REQUIRES iOS 27.1

23:00 · RECORDING PAUSED

Your journal stays on your iPhone.

You should not have to trust a company with your location history. With Trace, you do not have to. We do not receive your journal, so we cannot read it, sell it or lose it in a data breach.

  • Encrypted on your iPhone

Trace encrypts your journal on your device. We do not operate servers that receive your journal. We cannot read it.

  • You control the recording

Trace records nothing until you tap Start my journal. You can pause it from the app, the widget, the Lock Screen or Siri.

  • No account and no ads

You do not sign in. We do not sell your data or track you across other apps. iCloud sync is off by default. Trace sends no analytics.

Does Trace use much battery?

No. Trace uses the low-power location service of iOS. With the Always permission, Trace uses this service to fill in your full day.

Does Trace record all the time?

No. Trace records nothing until you tap Start my journal. With the While Using permission, Trace records only when the app is open. You can pause Trace at any time, also from the Lock Screen.

Do I need an account?

No. You do not need an account, and you do not sign in.

Can I bring my Google Maps Timeline history?

Yes. Export your Timeline from the Google Maps app on your phone. Then in Trace, open Settings and tap Import Google Timeline. Compare Trace and Google Maps Timeline.

Can I erase all my data?

Yes. In Settings, tap Erase Journal. This erases every day, place, route, memory and saved place, and the iCloud copy if you use iCloud sync. Your other devices keep the data that they downloaded before. Older backups of your iPhone can also contain earlier data.
